The German Labor Market
Germany is seeking foreign professionals.
In the summer of 2011, a dramatic shortage of doctors and nurses occurred. The same was true for the IT, automotive and mechanical engineering sectors.One of many policy response measures was the increased opening of the German labor mar-ket for foreign highly-skilled and professional workers.
Since the summer of 2012, the "Blue Card" program opened virtually unrestricted access to the market for foreign university graduates. In the spring of 2013, the government an-nounced that starting in June of 2013, the labor market will also open for occupations that do not require a university degree.
The situation for immigration to Germany is looking increasingly positive.
According to studies of the Brussels-based Migration Policy Group (MPG) from Summer of 2012 the labor market opportunities in Germany for migrants are bright, especially in Euro-pean comparison.
In fact, in Germany only 16 percent of immigrants work at a level below their professional qualifications. The European average is twice this figure.
